Considering myself, ahem, prepared.

You know, I've had an interesting week. Once again I am reminded that God has a sense of humor. This was most clearly illustrated on Monday when I went to my yearly "lady" appointment and found myself face to face with a very attractive man. Now, I had no idea what a hot guy was doing, alone, at the gyno's. It was awkward, yet it didn't stop me from texting a few friends to see if this was one of those interesting and unexpected places to meet singles. Thankfully, his baby and baby mama came in just as the texting battle was getting ramped up.

Rabbit trail: why do I put on lipstick to go to the gyno? I don't know, but seriously, it makes me feel better.

Flash forward to today in Anatomy class. [Perhaps you can see where this is headed?] Yep, time to discuss [at painful length] the male and female reproductive anatomoy! Great! Then I realized, perhaps God wants me to learn the correct lingo before TBD comes along. This theory was quickly thrown in the trash as my instructor equated the little "swimmers" making thier trip to find an egg much like a "flight from here to Beijing". Lovely.

The waiting continues...but I think at the point God's just having fun with me. Not cool.

Not cool.

It Only Takes a Spark...

With the Olympic flame still burning, we have 5 WEEKS until the new season of The Office starts.

Luckily, the brains at NBC know how desperate we are for a little Jim Halpert humor, so they gave us this little teaser...

5 weeks and counting...

Politics Aside...

You have got to watch this video! Let's be united as one nation for 1 minute and 30 seconds by our mutual love for Rick Astley.

An open letter...

Dear Katie,

No.

No thank you.

Fight the urge to roll those babies. We're not in middle school any longer.

Sincerely,
Becky

Olympic Musings

Just sitting here watching the Olympic coverage. I love the summer Olympics. However, while I'm watching all of the gymnastics drama for the past week [I mean studying for Anatomy], I am left with lingering questions. Perhaps you can help.

*Why do the floor routines have to be set to the most cliche music out there, i.e. an instrumental version of "Putting on the Ritz"??

*Is it really that hard to stay in bounds on the floor routine? Seriously, you have this HUGE square...just stay in it. Doesn't seem that complicated.

*Why do the girls need to lacquer down their hair with 134 clips and a can of hairspray?

Oh, and for the record, a few of those female Chinese gymnasts are NOT 16 years old. No way.

Other notes:

*What is the deal with the new swimming uniforms? These things look painfully tight, as I have seen these swimmers unzipping almost instantly after a race. The other night I saw Dara Torres looking a little panicked because she was still zipped up 0.5 seconds after she jumped out of the pool. Might I suggest Spanx? They make everything easier!

Overall, I am loving the competitions, the patriotism, the "God Bless America" of it all. I love watching Bela Karoli blabber on about gymnastics, while I have no idea what he's saying.

Small tidbit, do ya'll know that I once took gymnastics from Bela Karoli? Yes, indeed. One of those facts that I should share during the "Tell us something no one else knows about you" portion of any icebreaker. But yes, I did "train" under him. I use the word "train" loosely. Clearly it didn't stick, as you can see I'm training to become a nurse and I'm not an Olympian. Would-a, should-a, could-a.

Wide Open

The last day of vacation I convinced my parents to go to the pool. [I will have to tell you the story about me vs. the sand in another blog.] The pool was like heaven on earth! While we were enjoying our morning, a large family with 5 boys came into the pool. It was clear that this family was from the area [North Carolina] with all the "ya'll's" carrying across the water.

I will tell you that I fell victim to a few ya'll's myself. I can't help it, I fall right back into my roots and my inner redneck is yearnin' to come out!!

There was this precious little boy, probably 4 years old who was clearly the youngest of his brothers and cousins. [I heard his Mama call him Christian] The older boys jumped right into the deep end of the pool, while Christian was more timid and jumped cautiously into the shallow end. At one point, his Uncle was encouraging him to jump off the side, telling him that he would catch Christian if he couldn't touch. Bravely, he jumped. He proudly declared when he popped out of the water, "I 'kin touch!" So cute.

So, the boys were throwing a football back and forth across the pool with their Dad and Uncle, and poor little Christian wanted in on the action. Clearly the older boys were faster, better catchers, and better recipients for the ball. However, Christian didn't give up. He declared from the shallow end of the pool, "DADDY! DADDY! Throw the ball to me! I'm wiiiiiiiiiide open!"

Of course with his little accent it sounded more like "I'm wahhhhhhhde open!"

My Mom and I cooed, wishing we could take him home with us. We continue to laugh about his remark the rest of the day.

As we were driving home, I started to think about little Christian and the Lord revealed to me a cool point. Many days, I am like those older boys. Jumping confidently, skillfully into the deep end. Not needing the bottom of the pool as a safety net to touch, just going for it. Other days, I am like Christian. Too scared to go to the deep end, afraid I'll get in over my head if I can't touch the bottom, but eager to get in on the game. But the coolest thing is, no matter where I am, I try to intentionally position myself in a posture of receiving from the Lord.

I'm saying, "Daddy, I'm wiiiiiide open!"

I don't know if this will be the month. I don't know if this will be the year. Thinking about it makes me want to stay in the shallow end. But I do know that I'm wiiiide open to what God has for me. THAT makes me want to jump, feet first, into the deep end.

Thinking about Christian reminded me of this song by Suzy Yaraei called "Open Wide":

Getting us ready You are
Touching places still dark
Deep inside of us
King of glory come in
Messing us up You are
Setting us up for
Eternal love oh
King of glory come in

Open wide
Open wide and we will usher You in
Open wide
Open wide oh King of glory come in

We're not holding on anymore
To the keys to the doors
We give them to You
King of glory come in
Oil the hinges on the gates
Turn the lock, roll the stones away
We call to You, Oh
King of glory come in

Tell me who is this King
Strong and mighty King
Power and glory King

As promised...

Here are my incriminating photos from the ticket "incident"...

And here's the money shot...

I love that I look really angry...however, I will point out that my hands are clearly at 10 and 2.

Do you think they will give me credit for good form?

Blogroll Bonanza!

I'm famous!!!!

Ok, not really famous, but I had my first "outsider" ask if we could be blogroll buddies! Thanks Pete! [For my prayer group girls, Pete did that incredible video that I showed you about Angie and Todd Smith.]

Now what we are BFF's [Blog Friends Forever], I was reading this post from Pete this morning. One of those "zingers" that delivers so much truth I feel a sudden sense of empowerment. I am reminded of this section of Bill Johnson's book, "Strengthen Yourself in the Lord":

"He has equipped you for great victory-not just merely to break through, but to release and establish the dominion of God around you. However, it's your responsibility to use these tools to bring strength to yourself so you can stand in that victory."

This is a great reminder for today and where I am in my waiting, searching, hunting for TBD!
